As its name suggests, the game is all about plundering the wealth hidden in a pharaoh’s tomb. It has a great backdrop that draws inspiration from Egyptian architecture, making you feel like you jumped back in time. The symbols fit the theme, creating a visually consistent title.
You play Treasures of the Dead on a 5-reel grid, with each reel being three icons tall. The game has ten fixed paylines, meaning you cannot toggle them on or off. Icons appearing in the game are much more impressive, with stylised playing card royals, cat statues, sarcophagi, mummies, and explorers populating the reels. The book is the title’s only special symbol, acting as Wild and Scatter simultaneously.
More animations would improve the slot’s graphics. The backdrop would look much livelier with swaying plants or floating dust. While it is a small detail, it goes a long way in making your game stand out.
However, graphics are just half of the story. Fun gameplay is a must, and Treasures of the Dead delivers that in spades. The 5x3 layout with 10 paylines will be familiar to most slot fans. Its medium variance ensures a nice balance of frequent bonus feature activations and chances to win a substantial payout. However, what really drew us to the game were its extras. While none of them are all that innovative on their own, they combine into one entertaining package.

Treasures of the Dead will not blow anyone’s socks off. It’s a good game, with interesting changes to the ‘Book of’ slot formula. However, its visuals feel stiff due to somewhat lacklustre animations. At the same time, the graphics are neatly rendered and serve the Egyptian theme well.
